Art & Design
Subject intent:
At Willenhall Community Primary School, we believe that art should inspire and engage all pupils, by providing a nurturing and creative environment where they can express their thoughts, feelings, and identities through various artistic mediums. Our main aim is to foster a love of art that transcends the classroom, empowering all pupils to build confidence and resilience in their creative skills. We strive to ensure that all children:
- Experience the work of a diverse range of artists, both classic and modern, local and from other cultures, as well as learning about art through historical contexts.
- Acquire and refine technical skills, including drawing, painting and sculpture.
- Enhance critical thinking and imaginative problem-solving skills, encouraging them to approach tasks creatively and thoughtfully.
- Build confidence in their artistic abilities, encouraging a willingness to take risks and learn from both successes and challenges.
In line with the National Curriculum, our art curriculum is designed to be inclusive and relevant, ensuring that all pupils feel valued and represented in the art they create and study.
